A cultured European family in Holland Park is seeking a qualified Governess to provide comprehensive educational support and cultural enrichment for their two children — a bright, curious girl of 8 and her younger brother aged 5. The family resides in a stunning double-fronted Victorian villa with a dedicated schoolroom, a well-stocked library, and a large private garden. Both children attend leading London day schools, and the governess's role is to complement and extend their formal education.
The mother is a former diplomat and the father a senior partner at a Magic Circle law firm. They are deeply invested in their children's intellectual development and seek a governess who can inspire a genuine love of learning. The family speaks French at home and English at school, and the children are expected to become trilingual — French, English, and Mandarin.
Your working week runs Monday to Friday, 2:00pm to 7:30pm during term time, expanding to full days during school holidays when you will design and deliver a structured programme of educational activities, museum and gallery visits, reading projects, and creative workshops. Core responsibilities include supervising homework, delivering structured lessons in supplementary subjects, coordinating extracurricular activities, and providing regular progress reports.
The ideal governess combines a strong academic background with genuine warmth and creativity. You hold a teaching qualification and have experience working as a private governess or tutor with children of similar ages. You are intellectually stimulating, patient, and able to make learning feel like an adventure rather than a chore.
